The brightly lit Gato:/Gateau caught my eye because of the many bouquets of flowers displayed inside and outside the shop. Why? Because they opened last Saturday (not because they have a love for flowers). Opened by a husband and wife team, we foresee this being popular with the tea-time and after dinner crowd.
The decoration is a mix of East and West with lots of pastel colours and whimsy. Really liked the use of suitcases as a table. The radio was playing a mixture of Christmas tunes – we heard Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera.
The food is pretty reasonable and some may say cheaper than the usual cafes popping up. For a cube (really) of cake, it’s RM8. The cheesecake with tomato jam and a cheese wafer was delicious – I’ve never tried tomato jam before but I am now a fan. The cheese part of the cheesecake was soft and smooth – yummy. Just wish it was a little bigger…
The ‘Not Pavlova’ cake (RM8) has a hazelnut base meringue, lemon curd and kiwi slices on top. Interesting.
If you buy two cakes you get one hot drink free so I chose the chai latte (RM11). It was a pleasant surprise to taste real chai and to see a strainer (so you can separate the spices/chai from the tea). Warm and comforting after a long day.
The Super Fruit Iced Tea (RM10) was light on the palatte and came with two slices of lime inside. Perfect in this humid weather.
